Students (and I!) need to know it takes practice to get proficient at collaborative stuff. So I say up front that we'll encounter obstacles when we attempt new protocols, and that I want to know what's working. Then I'll share their feedback and modifications I've made when we try the exercise again. So much more buy in, and they see that what we are doing requires intentional iterations to "get it right".
